Shackle has been rehearsing regularly this January and February in anticipation of our USA West Coast Tour. Listen to some of the tracks from yesterday’s session.

One of Shackle’s favorite companions is Luc van Weelden. We played a romping and delightfully chaotic set with him at OCCII.

A threesome is always more complex than a duo and playing with Luc always seduces us to wander astray in our music making.

Shackle Affair at OCCII

Shackle’s new project is to extend the Shackle System into the visual domain by using silent film bits as a compositional component. We’re building a list of questions that include how we will synchronize the film bits with our music and our cueing system, what will take precedence: music or film, and what is the optimal size of the projections on the screen. We’ll keep you posted!

Shackle is Anne La Berge on flute and electronics and Deckard on laptop-instrument. Their aim is to explicitly and subtly exploit shackling in both concept and material. In the Shackle Affair, a guest plays with Shackle and the Shackle System. The guest for this set is hard/software hacking wizard Luc van Weelden aka Peter Quistgard.

Shackle’s Converging Objects workshop at STEIM with Vilbjørg Broch, Inge van den Kroonenberg, Steve Jones, Stefano Kalonaris , Mark Summers, Giorgio Distante, Nicoleta Chatzopoulou, Xander Sijperda, Musfik Can Muftuoglu, Chi-Hsia Lai, Josh Hu and Jan Klug and the Shackle Affair with Luc van Weelden turned out to be an intense couple of days for us all.

We spent hours focussed first on getting to know one another musically and then developing a couple of pieces to perform together. Strategies, histories, passions, techniques, likes and dislikes all made their way into the working process.

We would like to congratulate this team of artists for their successful performance at the end of the second day and special thanks to Luc van Weelden for giving the Shackle Affair some exciting and fresh new sounds to play with.

We kept our weekend flourish of activity going by playing at the cozy Sounds Like Soup on a windy and rainy afternoon. Our guest this time was our trusted clarinetist companion Oguz Buyukberber.

We packed in two Shackle Affair events one weekend. The first was on Saturday 7 December with Onno Govaert as guest drummer at the KULTER event in the St. Josef church in Amsterdam.

It was in an unheated and gutted church that was, for this event, popluated with artists. They projected work on the walls, set up installations and made performances.

We filled the space with sound!
